Before starting our trip to Morocco, we consulted, my husband and I, several forums on internet to organize our trip as best as possible. Though we wanted to visit cities like Marrakesh, we also wanted to escape from the more typical itineraries for tourists. We hesitated at first in taking a guide, because we like, during our trips, to be independent. Finally, we met Youssef on a forum. He’s an adorable young man of Berber origin who has made our trip so much easier and made us discover places that, although they appeared on some tourist guides, we didn’t know whether it was worth visiting them. We landed in Marrakech and that’s where we met him. During two days, we visited the city, the minaret, the various gardens and the famous square of Marrakech. From there we left for the desert by the route of the Kasbahs, visiting Ait Benhaddou and Ouarzazate on the way. Then we reached the desert, which is an experience you really should try. We were greeted by Berber families whose kindness and hospitality made us forget our country at times. We followed on passing by the Todra Gorges, we visited Essaouira and the waterfalls of Ouzoud. We were amazed by the variety of landscapes and by the accommodation Youssef found for us, because he knows everyone in Morocco and everyone knows him in Morocco, thanks to his activity. In short, our trip was wonderful thanks to him and we’re happy we met him. We think he’s a person with genuine values and funny too, so we totally recommend him. We were totally captivated by the magic of Morocco.

Our guide’s name was Oubza Youssef who, aside from teaching us a lot of things on his country, helped us a lot to work out our trip. On the last two days, we had booked a riad on the internet, which actually was in a disreputable area of Marrakech. Again, he helped us to find a new accommodation. I had the pleasure to go back to Morocco after 25 years. In fact, part of my family lives in Casablanca. I had already visited Marrakech, Ouarzazate, and Fez.This time, for the new year, my girlfriend and I needed to recharge our batteries and the desert seemed the best choice. Youssef greeted us at the airport of Marrakech, we spent our first night in a charming ryad then we left for Merzouga in his minibus. A first rate trip and above all with a guide who waited on us hand and foot.We chose an all-included option (meals, accommodation, trip.) to really switch off, and we chose well as everything was served on a plate and with a smile that makes you forget the stress of the big cities.I chose this photo to summarize our trip, because what I like most about travelling is to get in touch with the everyday life of people and on that day we discovered the hidden souks of Marrakech (where tourists don’t go), the handicraft boutiques where Moroccans go. It’s a good summary of our trip, as on every stop we where very near the population. No doubt, Morocco is a really fascinating country. My friends and I covered it for 10 days, 4 of which spent in the desert and in the surrounding villages with a guide that made us benefit of each hour of our trip by showing us spectacular sites, his name is Youssef Oubza.
